Graphic designers = Love Letter Writers.
Sounds weird, but here’s what I mean:
What is the point of graphic design? The client has a need to present a certain image or project certain information. That client does not have the skills and time to invent a visual version of their concept. It’s my job to understand that concept on a very deep level. Whatever it takes to understand that is what I do. Because without that foundation, there will be no success. Only then can I begin to interpret the concept and craft a visual representation.
I liken my role to a person who writes love letters on behalf of those who are not poetic. I listen deeply, brainstorm, and then craft love letters on behalf of the client so they can make people fall in love with their product.
The design is not about me. I am but a humble conduit for the ideas.
